Business Coaching for Small Business Owners
You’ve determined to have an amazing day of focus and progress…
You’re excited!
Last night, you filled in your planner and steamed that comfy shirt that looks great on Zoom…
Your new blue light frames just came in, and you can’t wait to use them…
All your water bottles are filled up… your living room is flooded with warm light and feels a smidge larger because you straightened up last night.
The computer’s charged, and the coffee is brewing…
… and your to-do list is full of items to tick off with your favorite pen.
Then, it happens. You open your phone, and before you know it…
Your focus went *poof!*
An hour got wasted on social media. Another two hours have gone checking emails…
Now, the first item on your checklist is too big to finish before your lunchtime meeting… content you tried to upload during your morning social media binge stalled – the computer froze – the progress you made on your upload is lost.
The client you were supposed to follow up with is texting you…
It’s going to be a late night. You cancel drinks with your neglected best-friend, who you haven’t seen in weeks.
The blue light protection glasses are still on your dresser, and you only notice when your tension headache starts to build…
Ten minutes till that lunchtime meeting, and you’ve checked exactly ZERO items off your gorgeous checklist…
Now, you’re panicking…
Because you’ve been here before: By this time in the day, you only have so much focus, so you know it’s going to be an uphill climb from here.
How did this happen… again!?
Lack of focus and not enough time are just the tip of the iceberg…
Reaching the next level of success is so much more than a lack of focus and not enough time.
Perhaps the doubt and fear hidden deep in your heart has you paralyzed: What if I can’t continue to bring in this much money and support all my employees, or even myself?’
Maybe you are terrified that someone will find out – you don’t really know what you’re doing – and people will turn on you…
Are your bills and OVERDUE notices stacked so high that you jump every time your phone rings, paranoid that collections are calling?
It’s been two weeks since you launched the new product or offering you slaved over for weeks, and you STILL haven’t landed a single client…
Even though your team is implementing the new strategies you learned from the countless classes, ebooks, and blogs about growing your platform – you can’t break through the algorithm – your likes, shares, comments, and saves feel like a joke.
Your body keeps the score…
It’s getting harder and harder to turn your brain off.
Cari* started getting irregular heartbeats.
Joanne* started losing hair.
Kyle* started gaining weight from irregular hormones.
Susan* started experiencing autoimmune issues.
Ben* started getting panic attacks.
And Lisa* stopped being able to sleep through the night.
Many of these symptoms are caused or exacerbated by stress.
Successful professionals tend to ignore signs from their bodies that they are pushing too hard because pushing is your happy place and has gotten you to where you are now. Your body can’t continue at this rate continuously. If you burn out, your business could burn out.
I used to fall into this camp, too. Early in my career, I went on vacation and found all my health symptoms had disappeared! The lightbulb went on that I had to change the way I lived. I vowed to guard my health from there on religiously – body before business.
Running on fumes is not a way to live a life. Something is going to break, and it’s often you.
You’re not the only one!
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), 45% of new businesses fail during the first five years. From my experience, many first-year business owners fail due to a lack of emotional support.
Whether it’s burnout, frustration with low client bookings, overwhelm from working too much, or deep feelings of unworthiness or self-doubt… lack of support can have serious implications.
So can unconscious self-limiting beliefs that create self-sabotage.
Could you be stagnant in your business from your own perceptions of how successful you’re unconsciously allowing yourself to be? Maybe you subconsciously resent the wealthy, and without knowing it, you’re holding yourself back from gaining wealth.
Do you perceive there’s not enough to go around, so you’re unconsciously holding back? The scarcity mindset has you trapped: The idea that you will yield less than you need, even with no effort spared. You don’t really believe this will work. Maybe you are worried if you DO succeed, someone else will suffer – their own chance at success ruined.
And what about the fear of visibility? Video marketing makes you feel exposed, in the spotlight, and you can’t break free from the little voice that says people hate listening to you talk or you feel self-conscious about your voice.
Maybe the fear of being seen causes you to minimize or under market your brilliant service. Fear of leaving the comfort zone can paralyze you till you’re broke as a joke. And unless fear is curtailed, you’ll stay IN the comfort zone and OUT of the growth zone.
Most businesses these days are built on the “know, like, and trust” factor of the face of the business – YOU.
Whether it’s TikTok, YouTube, or some other platform, video seems to be the latest preferred form of engagement and fastest form of connection. Coming across like a fool vs. getting yourself out there to bring transformation to your customer’s life is hanging in the balance, and the seconds on the clock are ticking louder than ever.
Business success doesn’t always equal personal life success.
It’s a big issue… one that you might not expect. They’re often oppositely correlated.
Take Kelly*, for example. She spent long hours in her home office serving clients, creating content, and managing her Facebook ads. She was afraid to hire help because she wasn’t making enough to cover that expense and leave a financial cushion for herself, yet she wasn’t even taking a regular paycheck from her business. For this reason, her partner wasn’t thrilled about her occupational choice, and it was causing a rift between them.
Or Cole*, who spent a lot of time on his podcast, his membership, and creating content for social media. The slow growth of his business versus all the hours he was putting in was causing panic attacks that affected his state of joy even when he wasn’t working.
Then there’s Andrea*. She was killing it at work. Her business grew to seven figures in two years. She had a team of 15 people and opportunities all over the place. Everything about work was so fun and exciting. She’d often get up early to work and put in a few hours on the weekends, too. She was the breadwinner and even got to retire her husband, which he loved. But when they’d spend time together, her husband would share things that he wished were different between them. She wanted to change, too, but the qualities she developed to grow her business seemed to hamper the qualities needed to support her relationship.
The tension of work and life puts a strain on your spirit, and a question haunts you: Can I find professional success and personal fulfillment at the same time?
Maybe people treat you differently now that you have money or status: You feel like a commodity. The people closest to you resent your unavailability, and the people in your periphery try to leverage their proximity to you. Either way, it seems like you are a locked gate between others and fulfillment.
An “All Or Nothing” mindset makes it hard to see past obstacles that seem insurmountable. How can anyone find time and energy for work, self, AND family?
